Upload without virus hassle. . .

   1.    Open  Adobe PageMaker version 6.5  or 7.

    2.    Check under the links manager (under the file menu) to make sure all your graphics, clip art and photo files are linked correctly in your original document. If any item has a question mark next to it PageMaker cannot find it to package it. If an item has a diamond next to it, the item has been updated since it was linked to your main document. Click on the info button at the right to find missing items. Click on the update button to update.

    3.    The Save for Service Provider Utility will work faster if everything it needs is on your computer’s main hard drive. Fonts and art that are saved on a network will take longer to package. Make sure disks for clip art you are using are in the CD drive.

    4.    If you are having printing problems, we will, too. Try changing problem fonts or graphics before you send your files to us. These problems can ruin your project if not fixed!

Use the Save for Service Provider Utility:

   1.     Under PageMaker 6.5 or 7, go to the Utilities menu at the top of your screen, scroll over to the Plug-ins menu and scroll down to Save for Service Provider.

   2.     Click on the Fonts tab at the top of the window and check the “List problems only” box.

   3.     Click on the Links tab at the top of the window and check the “List problems only” box.

   4.     Click on the “Package” button on the bottom left of the window. You may get a message saying that your document is not in a saved state and asking if you want to continue or cancel. Say continue and PageMaker will save the document at that point.

   5.     In the Package window click on:

    a.    Copy Fonts and All. (If you do not copy your fonts, all of your type can reflow causing layout and printing problems. Even if we have a font with the same name, it may not space between letters or words the same as your version of the font.)

    b.    Auto open package report.

    c.     Update links in source publication before packaging. (This is very important, if your graphics or pictures are not linked, they will not copy for us to use and they will print with very poor quality.)

   6.     Choose a disk to be saved to. This could be your C drive on a PC or your hard drive on a Mac. Do not save to a network drive, as it will slow down the process.

   7.     You can make a folder on your desktop to save your files into before you copy them to send to us. That way you can look through the folder easily and can easily use Stuffit or Zip on the folder before you upload the files to our Digital Drop Box. Choose New folder to the right of the browse window and name and create a folder for your document, graphics and fonts.

   8.     Click on the Save button.

   9.     Check OK when you get the alert shown at right.

  10.    At this point you may get an alert message telling you that there are linked files missing and PageMaker cannot package your document. Then you need to go back to your original document’s Link Manager (under the file menu) and make sure that any items with question marks next to them are updated and relinked to the correct graphics or photos. If this happens you have to start the Save for Service Provider process over again.

  11.    When you have finished saving for service provider the Package window disappears, but the window with the tabs across the tops will still be on screen. Click on the close button.

  12.    Check the reports generated when you packaged your job. They will list all the fonts and graphics that were used in the publication. This is where you would see a list of any problems that might have occurred with your fonts or graphics such as corrupted or missing fonts or graphics which will not print. Bad fonts or graphics will take time for us to attempt to fix, if we can fix them, and will cost you money to repair!

13. Upload the files this process has created to our Digital Drop Box , and please fax or drop

off a composite printout of your document so we can get the proof right the first time.  When uploading files, please don’t forget to leave your name and contact information, as we receive many files and might not know who to call or email when the proof is ready.

Please do this before sending Pagemaker files:
